You will receive notification via email in advance of your unit's transition to Skype for Business phone service.
You will know when the transition is complete when your Avaya or Cisco telephone no longer has dial tone.
Skype for Business uses your primary KU email alias (also known as a SIP address or Skype for Business address) for log in and in place of a phone number for Skype-to-Skype voice calls.
Changing your primary email address (Skype for Business login) can cause issues with Skype for Business' "presence" function and with reoccurring Skype for Business online meetings you have already scheduled.
When you place or answer a call via Skype for Business phone service to/from a traditional telephone number, the call is routed to the public telephone network via the KU data network or the Internet.
If your phone number is incorrect in Skype for Business, first check to see if it is correct in KU's Global Address list by looking for yourself in the address book in Outlook.
Whether you are purchasing new individual equipment or you are responsible for making group or major purchases, you are encouraged to check with your departmental technology support staff for guidance on what to buy.
In general, if you are purchasing new computers (Windows or Mac), you should not have any issues with regard to Skype for Business/Lync.
You can use Skype for Business from nearly any Windows PC or mobile device (Lync on Macs or mobile devices), on campus or anywhere in the world you have Internet access.
Please see the Recommended Skype for Business Devices page for information on purchasing Skype for Business compatible devices.
Skype for Business is not designed to be used with shared accounts for the purpose of instant messaging and presence.
With that being said, Skype for Business audio and video can work well over wireless networks given sufficient signal strength and available capacity.
Check our Knowledge Base article for more information on optimizing your wireless configuration.
If the organization has open federation, you can add users in that organization to your Skype for Business Contacts list by adding their Skype for Business address to your contacts list.
